One of the prizes at this year’s W.O.L.F. Sanctuary Anniversary Gala Fundraiser will be a Two-Hour Dragon Boat Adventure for Four! The event will give us an opportunity to display our tabletop Dragon Head/Tail exhibit and promote our programs while benefitting another very worthwhile cause.
As part of its effort to promote its new Breast Cancer Survivor (BCS) Dragon Boat Program, DRACO will be participating in this year’s Leaves of Hope and Cancer Survivors Celebration on Sunday, June 5. The event is hosted by the Lutheran Medical Center and, with more than 1,000 survivors, patients, families, hospital associates and community members, is Jefferson County’s largest National Cancer Survivors Day® celebration. We will be part of the health and safety fair that features a variety of non-profit organizations that focus on cancer survivorship, health and fitness.
We plan to have a dragon boat on display, along with video and/or other promotional materials available. Please join us for this great event, and help support both our program and the local cancer survivor community!

Great News!!! GWN Dragon Boat has announced a new event – the Walgreen’s Colorado Springs International Dragon Boat Festival, to be presented by Pepsico August 27th, 2016.
It will be great to add a new, professionally organized and well-run dragon boat competition to our calendar of events!
Michael J. Boyd (Captain Bligh), DRACO President and Captain/Head Coach of the Phantom Dragons, has been formally selected to compete on the Team USA Senior C Mixed crew that will compete in the World Championships in Welland, Ontario in August!
The selections were made based on initial physical testing, followed by two separate three-day Tryout Camps that included two-a-day practices, weigh-ins, and a variety of performance tests, both on and off the water.
Now, the only remaining hurdle that he must overcome in order to compete is financial. To help, a RallyMe crowd-funding site set up at this link:
Please help if you can. Even if you can’t contribute financially, you can still be of great assistance by spreading the word about this campaign to all your contacts via EMail, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and other social media.
Many thanks for your support!

The DRACO Mini-Dragon Series has officially begun!
The Dragonboat Racing Association of Colorado (DRACO) has teamed up with Infinite West to help raise funds for Colorado River Headwaters Conservation Education by including a dragon boat division in this year’s Spirit of the Lake Regatta, to be held August 23rd on Grand Lake.
This will mark the first time a dragon boat division has been included in this event (and, the first-ever organized dragon boat racing event in Colorado, apart from the Colorado Dragon Boat Festival). Both the Lao Buddhist and Phantom Dragons teams, coming off very successful performances in this year’s CDBF, are expected to compete. Additional information is included in the downloadable Spirit of the Lake DB Challenge Flyer.
There’s still time to register! Come on out and join in the fun!
On June 21, the Phantom Dragons will be participating in The Longest Day. From sunrise to sunset, we will be paddling dragon boats to raise awareness and funds for the care, support and research efforts of the Alzheimer’s Association, and to provide support for, and increase the visibility of, the fun and exciting sport of dragon boat racing.
Please join us in this effort! We would greatly appreciate it if you would make a monetary contribution and/or help us in obtaining pledges to support these worthwhile causes. If you’re in this area, please come out in person to help in our efforts – it should be a very fun and rewarding day! For more information, see our flyer / pledge form at the following link:
