Lois Mitchell – Paddler Bio (Pink Phantoms)

Lois Mitchell  ( LO <o> I )

I’ve been Dragon Boat paddling since April 2016 for the Phantom Dragons/Pink Phantoms.

I attended a Pink Hat Tea Celebration for Breast Cancer Survivors with a friend who was a survivor.  I saw the dragon boat display, and decided I would try out as a breast care supporter due to many friends and relatives having breast cancer.  I was immediately hooked on Dragon Boat paddling, and have competed in multiple events in Colorado and Arizona. I love the team spirit and friendly competition. It’s a great sport to promote health and happiness, and collect a little bling!

Christina Miranda – Paddler Bio (Phantom Dragons)

Christina Miranda

Christina Miranda joined the Phantom Dragons in 2016 after a life-long search for a sport that would not involve balls whizzing straight at her admittedly large target of a noggin. Christina loves the sound of the water swishing off the sides of the dragon boat, and being able to see the finish line while paddling.

Christina has participated in dragon boat races with the Phantom Dragons at the Colorado Dragon Boat Festival in Denver, and events in Grand Lake, Colorado and Tempe, Arizona.  She looks forward to joining the team in more exotic racing locales such as San Francisco and Portland. In her off the water life, Christina is proud to serve in the Air Force Reserves, and at the Colorado Department of Labor.

Kamikaze Launches 4000+ in Punkin Chunkin Colorado 2K17

Kamikaze Launches 4000+ in Punkin Chunkin Colorado 2K17!

Click on Photo for Video of Launch!

DRACO was well-represented at this year’s Punkin Chunkin Colorado, a two-day, nationally-sanctioned pumpkin launching competition held in Aurora, Colorado on October 7-8, 2017.  This is an annual event for members of the Phantom Dragons / Pink Phantoms crews, providing an opportunity to gain publicity for DRACO and our breast cancer survivor (BCS) program.

We had a great competition this year. Although we didn’t have quite the distance capability of the two largest air cannons that competed (each of which set a new world record for launch distance, the last an amazing 4,970 feet), we did set a personal record for our launcher of 4,084 feet, earning us a seat in the prestigious 4,000+ Club!

Photos taken at the event can be seen at the following link.  Also included are a number of photos showing modifications to our compressed air cannon, Kamikaze (Divine Wind) to get it ready for this year’s launch.

Dragon Boat Races at Spirit of the Lake Regatta

On August 12, 2017 the Dragonboat Racing Association of Colorado (DRACO) provided boats, equipment and technical assistance to put on dragon boat races as part of the  Spirit of the Lake Regatta on Grand Lake. The event served as a fund-raiser to benefit Infinite West and its Colorado River Headwaters Conservation efforts, along with DRACO’s breast cancer survivor (BCS) dragon boat program.  The race featured six local 10-man teams, all without any prior dragon boat experience.  From a management standpoint, it proved to be a challenging, but highly successful, event!
