Pink Phantoms promote at BCS Pink Hat Tea

Members of DRACO’s Phantom Dragons / Pink Phantoms crew were honored to participate in Lutheran Medical Center’s BCS Pink Hat Tea again this year, an annual event for the benefit of newly diagnosed and long-term breast cancer survivors.  It was a wonderful opportunity to gain visibility and support for our breast cancer survivor dragon boat program, and we again connected with a number of prospective BCS paddlers!

AZDBA Donates Dragon Boats to DRACO!

AZDBA Donates Dragon Boats to DRACO!

Many thanks to the Arizona Dragon Boat Association for the generous donation of two used 20-man Champion dragon boats and related equipment in support of our non-profit programs and activities.  After making the necessary modifications to our trailer, we picked the boats up at the 2018 Arizona Dragon Boat Festival and hauled them back to Denver.

The trip was not without its challenges.  We blew a tire on the trailer on the trip down, and blizzard conditions from Pueblo to Denver on the return trip.

DRACO to Participate in BCS Pink Hat Tea Event

Pink Phantoms to attend Pink Hat Tea

As part of its effort to promote its Breast Cancer Survivor (BCS) Dragon Boat Program, members and supporters of DRACO’s Pink Phantoms crew will be participating in this year’s BCS Pink Hat Tea on April 7, an event hosted by the Lutheran Medical Center for the benefit of newly diagnosed and long-term breast cancer survivors.  The theme of this year’s event, to be held at the Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities, is “Brewing Gratitude”, and will focus on finding gratitude in your life and how it fits into healthy survivorship.

We plan to have a dragon boat on display, along with video and/or other promotional materials.  Please join us for this great event, and help support both our program and the local BCS community!

Lois Mitchell – Paddler Bio (Pink Phantoms)

Lois Mitchell  ( LO <o> I )

I’ve been Dragon Boat paddling since April 2016 for the Phantom Dragons/Pink Phantoms.

I attended a Pink Hat Tea Celebration for Breast Cancer Survivors with a friend who was a survivor.  I saw the dragon boat display, and decided I would try out as a breast care supporter due to many friends and relatives having breast cancer.  I was immediately hooked on Dragon Boat paddling, and have competed in multiple events in Colorado and Arizona. I love the team spirit and friendly competition. It’s a great sport to promote health and happiness, and collect a little bling!

Christina Miranda – Paddler Bio (Phantom Dragons)

Christina Miranda

Christina Miranda joined the Phantom Dragons in 2016 after a life-long search for a sport that would not involve balls whizzing straight at her admittedly large target of a noggin. Christina loves the sound of the water swishing off the sides of the dragon boat, and being able to see the finish line while paddling.

Christina has participated in dragon boat races with the Phantom Dragons at the Colorado Dragon Boat Festival in Denver, and events in Grand Lake, Colorado and Tempe, Arizona.  She looks forward to joining the team in more exotic racing locales such as San Francisco and Portland. In her off the water life, Christina is proud to serve in the Air Force Reserves, and at the Colorado Department of Labor.
